Hello!

Our school year has ended, and I hope everyone had a lot of fun this year.

Monday we cleaned out our class, wrote a letter to our grade 12s selves, and had our class auction!

Tuesday was beach day, everyone had a blast, and only I burnt my nose.

Wednesday was camp thunderbird, and it was a fantastic time! Students were all able to canoe, do some orienteering, and either got to participate in archery or rock climing. It was a great experience.

Thursday was our year end assembly, grade 5 grad, and afternoon water fight! It was cold, but still a lot of fun. Report cards were also handed out.

Have a good summer, and best of luck next year in middle school!

Hello!

Second to last week down! And boy was it a lot of fun.

On Monday we took a field trip to the YMCA swimming pool. The walk was a trying experience with the heat, but we made it there and back again. The students had a fun time, and we joined Div 1 at Centennial Park.

We finished off our country projects for social studies. Most look pretty well detailed, showcasing some interesting ideas on how to run a country. We present them to the class on Monday.

We built our bottle rockets on Tuesday, and shot them off on Thursday with Div 4. Mine went the highest, with a couple of students getting close. In the end I was definitely soaked, and the students learned a little about force, pressure, and aerodynamics.

Sent home artwork on Friday, hopefully it arrived safely. Fun day was friday, seemed like everyone had a great time!

We will be doing a clean out on Monday, as well as our class auction. Tuesday is beach day, don’t forget to bring a towel! Wednesday is Camp Thunderbird, get to school early! I will let students in at 8. Thursday is year end assembly, grade 5 ceremony, and intermediate waterfight!

Should be a fun week, see you then!

Hello!

Our class started this week off with a fun trip to Langford Lanes bowling! We also played a quick suprise game of minigolf before.

In math, we finished off our work on transformations, showing the school what a translation, reflection, and rotation looks like.

In language arts, we reviewed the activities our class has participated in this year, and wrote up our self assessment with the core competencies.

In science, we shared and presented our rock and mineral PowerPoint to the class. They were all well informed and the presentations were great! We also looked at trajectory and force by shooting projectiles through the air, trying to hit a target.

In social studies, we continues working on our country projects. So far there are a lot of unique ideas on how to run a country.

In art, we worked on our fathers/grandfathers/older brothers day presents. I hope you enjoy them!

2 weeks left to go! Monday we will be swimming at the YMCA. I will email out a reminder about swimsuits. We are also going to be building our own rockets, so we need 2l bottles, cardboard, and got glue guns!

A few students still need to return their camp thunderbird forms, and the trip is coming up soon. Fun day will be friday, and beach day forms will be going home soon.

Have a good weekend, and protect yourself from the sun, as it’s gonna be hot!

Hello!

Another week down, 3 left to go! We had our maturity talk on Thursday with the public health nurse, it was very informative. Our dance performance for the health hustle was a hit, even with my misteps…

In language arts, we rushed to finished off our comics, as the websites free trial was ending. The stories are a little simple, though still entertaining to read.

In math, we finished off probability and made our very own games. Each student made a spinner, and designed a game to go on the back.

We have also just started looking into transformations, such as translation, reflection, and rotation. We played a game of class Tetris.

In Social Studies, we started working on our group country projects. It is always a rocky start, as students try to figure out a name for their country, but once that is done, there is a lot of good conversation on how to best run a country.

In science, we finished off the rock cycle with a quiz, and most students finished off their PowerPoint presentation for Tuesday. So far they look pretty good!

Next week we will continue looking into transformations for math, working on our country project in social studies, write about our experiences in grade 5 for language arts, present our rock presentations in science, and finish off some art projects.

Monday is bowling, Thursday is our Spencer tour trip. Should be a fun week, see you Monday!

Hello!

A busy week with the Fun Fair and track day as we start June off with a bang!

We have up using toondoo, and started exploring Picton to make our comic books. The website seemed a lot easier, too bad there is only a 15 day trial… So we will see how far that gets us.

We looked into probability this week for math, discussing possible vs impossible events, and how likely a situation may be. We played a few probability games to go with it, the students did not win though, so we had to complete more work. We also made surveys and created double bar graphs to represent our data.

We finished off our government unit in social studies, with a game of jeopardy and a final quiz. I feel that the students are ready for create their own governments for next week’s lessons.

In science, we continued working on our rock PowerPoint. We also praticed putting together the rock cycle. There will be a quiz next week on it!

We started working on zentangle cityscapes in art, so far they are looking pretty cool!

The fun fair was a great time, especially for those who volunteered to go into the dunk tank! I heard the water was very cold, and it’s too bad about those delayed reactions on the target… Also, it seems a lot of students had fun at the track meet, go Ruth King!

Next week we have our camp thunderbird info night on the 5th at 330. Our maturity talks with the health nurse on the 7th. We will start out country projects in social studies, and continue working on in our other subjects.

Have a good weekend!
